Government Is Not God PAC wins in Nebraska with Sasse but suffers a loss in Georgia with Broun. GOP Senate Leader Mitch McConnell handily defeated Republican businessman Matt Bevin as Tea Party works to defeat the second most powerful Republican in the House. Defeat of Cantor would be a major blow to the Commonwealth of Virginian and a huge downgrade overall for the 7th District.

The Truth about lobbying: Outside the beltway, lobbying is a dirty word. In reality lobbying serves an important function. Various groups both left and right slam the idea of lobbying, and some would even like to outlaw the activity. Without it, though, congressmen and Senators would be working in the dark. How could a Senator decide what was best for his state if he were not allowed to talk to the ten largest employers in his state? Think about it. What if congressmen were not allowed to have conversations with the representatives of city or county governments?

There are 435 congressmen and all types of circumstances arise that cause them to leave office. So far there have been nine resignations in just seven months into the new two year term: two due to acceptance of private sector jobs, two due to political appointments, two due to a Senator’s death; one due to criminal prosecution/health issues; one due to acceptance of a university position and one due to a win in a special election. Five were Democrats and four were Republicans
