Congressman Daniel Webster (R-FL) is a GING-PAC endorsed legislator who has announced his run for Speaker of the House to replace John Boehner who abruptly resigned last week. He would be challenging House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy. No other challengers have surfaced so far.

Webster issued the following statement to his constituents:

On Friday, Speaker John Boehner announced that he would be resigning from Congress at the end of October.

Back in January, I had allowed myself to be nominated to run for Speaker of the House because I believe we need to implement a principle-based, Member-driven process in Congress. As I advocated earlier this year, ‘The only way to improve the product is to fix the process.’

My goal is for the House of Representatives to be based on principle, not on power. Every Member of Congress deserves a seat at the table to be involved in the process. I will continue fighting for this to become a reality in Washington, and am running for Speaker of the House.

Over the past few days, my goal has been to describe to Members of Congress and the media what I envision for a process that is based on principle. I wanted to share several of those articles and media clips with you as well.

In January, Webster was one of three Republicans challenging Boehner. The others were: Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Ted Yoho (R-FL).

Webster recently voted for the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015 and issued the following statement on it:

A series of horrifying video footage has recently emerged that appears to indicate Planned Parenthood has been participating in the heinous and illegal transfer of aborted body parts for profit. While these reports have brought into question the legality of Planned Parenthood’s procedures, the videos have also exposed the brutality of the abortion process and highlighted the humanity of unborn children.

House committees have initiated an investigation into Planned Parenthood on the alleged harvest of aborted babies’ body parts. Meanwhile, I voted today to suspend all federal taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood and redirect these allocated funds to other Federally Qualified Health Centers that provide quality services for women’s health.
