July 18, 2011 – GING-PAC supported Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan was on “Fox News Sunday” with Chris Wallace and Democrat Chris Van Hollen (MD) to discuss the debt ceiling and sound fiscal policies.

Rep. Jordan, who heads up the Republican Study Committee in Congress, was adamant about getting a budget deal that doesn’t result in huge tax increases during hard economic times.

Jordan was particularly outspoken in his opposition to a plan in the Senate being floated by Senator Mitch McConnell. According to Jordan, this plan will have Congress vote on incremental increases worth $2.5 trillion – but in such a way that gives Obama the option of increasing the debt limit without congressional approval.

Jordan says many House Republicans are opposed to the McConnell plan: “They’re not going to support the McConnell plan. I’m not going to support the McConnell plan.” He is advocating a House plan to cut and cap federal spending while requiring a balanced-budget amendment in exchange for a debt-ceiling increase. McConnell “… is just kicking the can down the road.”

Jordan and other conservatives in the House are supporting a “Cut, Cap, And Balance” bill that is to be voted on this week. This legislation will make real spending cuts in FY 2012 – but only if the House and Senate can pass a Balanced Budget Amendment.
